Annual house price growth decelerates again in August

“Our proprietary market strength indicators show that demand for houses is now moderating, following a strong rebound in 2H20 and into 2021. However, these are still above 2019 levels, reflecting the positive effect of lower interest rates on market activity and the changing housing needs due to the pandemic.” This is the view of Siphamandla Mkhwanazi, FNB Senior Economist, on the latest indicators in the real estate industry.

Educational material now available for CPD

The EAAB announced that the CPD 2021 material will be uploaded in the coming weeks thereby making the CPD programme available from 1 October 2021 to all eligible estate agents. Experience has taught the EAAB that there are some estate agents who experience difficulties in navigating the CPD portal which compromises their ability to complete the CPD programme. In this regard, the EAAB will, in due course, issue a schedule to remotely assist the affected estate agents using a meeting virtual platform.

Generate your own electricity, community housing schemes advised

Property owners in community housing schemes such as Sectional Title complexes and gated estates should be celebrating the newly-gazetted change to the Electricity Generation Act regulations, which will allow private individuals and businesses to generate up to 100KW of electricity for their own use without having to obtain a licence from the National Electricity Regulator.

Meeting the challenges of disruption with strategic FinOps

SPEAKERS CORNER: The headwinds and economic strain of the past 18 months have left many businesses with little option but to evaluate costs. However, a recent PwC report states that while 52 percent of companies plan to curb or defer investments, only 9 percent will make those cuts in digital transformation.

Clearly, effective processes, combined with strong risk discipline and using FinOps to optimise cloud costs is more important than ever before. Managing through turbulence and disruption has become an essential skill for CIOs and IT decision makers.
